Premium Auto Detailing: Keep Your Vehicle Looking (and Feeling) Like New
Each stage in our detailing process is executed with perection.
There’s nothing quite like stepping into a spotlessly clean car – the fresh scent, the gleaming paint, the dust-free dash and sparkling windows. That brand-new car feeling doesn’t have to fade with time if you invest in regular auto detailing. At Ascension Automotive, we consider detailing both an art and a science: it’s about restoring and protecting every nook and cranny of your vehicle. Our Milford-based auto spa has helped numerous Oakland County drivers rejuvenate their rides, from daily commuters to luxury cruisers. In this post, we’ll explain what professional detailing entails, how it benefits your car (and you), and why it’s especially worthwhile given Michigan’s driving conditions.
What Does a Professional Detail Include?
Auto detailing is a comprehensive cleaning and reconditioning of your vehicle, inside and out. It goes far beyond a simple car wash. Here’s a breakdown of typical services involved when you bring your car to Ascension Automotive for a full detail:
Exterior Detailing: We start with a careful hand wash of the exterior to remove loose dirt. Then we often use a clay bar to pick up bonded contaminants like rail dust or tree sap that washing misses. The paint is usually polished or at least given a cleaner/wax to remove light oxidation and bring out gloss. We then apply a layer of protection – typically a high-grade carnauba wax or paint sealant – to shield the paint from UV rays, acid rain, and other contaminants. Tires and wheels are cleaned and dressed, chrome or metal trim is polished, and any exterior plastic or rubber is treated to restore vibrancy and provide UV protection. We even clean the windows to a crystal-clear finish. The goal is a paint surface that’s smooth, shiny, and protected, with all the exterior details dialed in.
Interior Detailing: Inside, we go through every crevice. We vacuum all carpets and seats thoroughly (including under the seats and in the trunk). Any fabric upholstery or carpet mats get shampooed and steam-cleaned if needed, which lifts out stains and grime. Leather seats are cleaned with appropriate pH-safe cleaners and then conditioned to replenish oils (preventing cracks and keeping them supple). All plastic/vinyl surfaces (dashboard, door panels, center console) are cleaned and then dressed with a UV-protectant that leaves a nice matte (not greasy) finish We clean out cup holders, air vents, door jambs – all the little spots where dust and gunk accumulate. Glass inside is cleaned to be streak-free. We can also perform odor elimination if needed (for example, treating smoke or pet odors). By the end, the interior looks and smells as close to new as possible – we want you to get that “ahh” feeling when you sit in the driver’s seat.
Additional Services: Depending on the package or your needs, detailing can also include things like engine bay cleaning (carefully degreasing and dressing the engine compartment so it’s clean and free of grime), headlight restoration if your headlight lenses are cloudy, or other specialty treatments. For instance, in our higher-tier detail packages, we even do a light polish on the paint and apply paint sealants for longer protection, or use steam cleaning for deeper sanitation inside. We tailor the service to what your car needs most.
Essentially, detailing is a makeover for your car. Every facet is addressed with specialized products and techniques. It’s the kind of deep clean that you likely can’t or won’t perform yourself at home, because it’s very time-intensive and requires the right tools (buffer, extractor, etc.).
Benefits of Regular Detailing
Preserve Your Car’s Value: A car that’s regularly detailed will hold its value better over time. Why? Because the paint stays protected and rust-free, the interior leather doesn’t crack, and the car overall looks newer. If you plan to sell or trade in your vehicle, having a documented history of professional detailing (and actually presenting a clean, shiny car) can boost its resale value. People pay more for a car that looks like it’s been cared for. Think of detailing as a form of preventative maintenance for your car’s aesthetics – just like an oil change is for the engine. It keeps the wear and tear at bay.
Protection from the Elements: Here in Michigan, our cars see everything from road salt and sand in the winter to bug splatter and intense UV sun in the summer. Detailing preps and protects your car for these challenges. For example, applying a good coat of wax before winter provides a sacrificial layer so salt and grime sit on the wax, not directly on your clearcoat. Cleaning the undercarriage and wheel wells removes salt that can lead to corrosion. Inside, vacuuming out all the salt and mud that gets dragged in during winter prevents your carpets from deteriorating or metal floor pans from rusting. In summer, a detailed car with UV protectants on the dash and seats will better resist sun cracking/fading. We often recommend at least a couple of details a year – perhaps one in late fall (pre-winter) and one in spring (post-winter) – to combat the seasonal impacts on your vehicle.
Enhanced Appearance – Like New Again: The most immediate benefit, of course, is how great your car will look and feel after a detail. Our clients frequently comment that their car hasn’t looked this good since the day they bought it. Scratches polished out, chrome shining, paint glossy and slick to the touch, interior spotless and inviting – it truly resets the clock on your car’s appearance. If you’ve been too busy for deep cleaning, you might be amazed at the transformation. We’ve had folks literally do a double-take, hardly recognizing their own vehicle after a thorough detail. It’s not just for fancy cars either; your everyday family SUV can benefit. Who doesn’t enjoy driving a clean, glossy car? Even a few-year-old minivan can spark some pride when it’s been professionally cleaned up.
Improved Comfort and Hygiene: Let’s talk about the interior – the place you spend all your time. A detailed interior is a healthier and more pleasant environment. We remove dust, allergens, and bacteria that build up on surfaces and in fabrics. If you’ve got kids or pets, you know how quickly the mess (and germs) can accumulate – spilled drinks, food crumbs, pet dander, etc. Deep cleaning the seats and carpets not only removes visible stains but also any funky odors and unseen microbes. It’s akin to spring cleaning your house, but for your car’s cabin. You’ll breathe easier (literally) and enjoy your drives more when you’re not staring at a coffee stain on the console or smelling that mysterious funk from the back seat. Many customers tell us their car simply feels different (in a good way) after an interior detail – it’s more relaxing and satisfying to drive.
Attention to Detail (Pun Intended): When you get your car detailed by professionals like our team, you benefit from all the little things we take care of. We’ll clean the door jambs so you don’t get grime on your pants when you step out. We’ll polish that little chrome emblem or exhaust tip that you might not have bothered with. We use brushes to get dust out of air vent slats and buttons. It’s this level of thoroughness that distinguishes a true detail from a quick clean. Those small touches not only make the car look better, but they can also improve functionality (e.g., clearing dust from switches) and even catch potential issues (during detailing we might notice a loose trim piece or an unplugged wire, etc., which we can alert you to). Essentially, we treat your car as if it were our own prized possession, leaving no spot unchecked.
Stress Relief and Pride: It might sound a bit intangible, but driving a clean car can actually reduce stress and increase enjoyment. There’s a psychological benefit to having a clutter-free, clean space. Your daily commute or errands can genuinely feel brighter when the windshield is crystal clear and the interior smells fresh. Plus, you’ll likely feel a sense of pride pulling up in a car that looks well-maintained. That’s a nice little boost, whether it’s at a business meeting or just meeting friends for dinner. You can’t put a price on the confidence of knowing your ride is looking fine.
Ascension Automotive’s Detailing Difference
We know you have options when it comes to car cleaning, but Ascension Automotive strives to offer an unparalleled detailing experience. We’re not your $20 quick wash; we’re a luxury auto spa for those who want the best for their vehicles. Here’s what sets our service apart:
Experienced, Passionate Technicians: Our detailers are car enthusiasts who take personal pride in every vehicle we work on. We have the training and know-how to tackle tough stains, delicate materials, and everything in between. Whether it’s caring for high-end leather in a Porsche or safely cleaning the touchscreen in a Tesla, we use the right methods. We don’t cut corners – if it means spending extra time to remove a smudge or using Q-tips to get into tight spots, we do it. This passion translates into a higher quality result for you.
High-Quality Products: We use professional-grade, top-of-the-line detailing products. From pH-balanced shampoos and non-acid wheel cleaners to gentle leather soaps and premium polymer sealants, every chemical we use is chosen for effectiveness and safety. Cheap cleaners can be harsh and might degrade your car’s materials (for example, high alkaline cleaners can dry out leather or strip wax). We invest in the best products (and tools) so that your car’s surfaces are cleaned and protected properly. When we dress your interior, it won’t be a greasy silicone shine that attracts dust – it’ll be a satin finish that repels UV and dust. When we wax your car, it’s with a product that has rich carnauba or advanced polymers for longevity. Essentially, we treat your vehicle with the same quality of product we would use on a show car.
World-Class Facility: Detailing is best done in a controlled environment, and we’ve got just that. Our shop is equipped with proper lighting (so we can see and address every flaw), climate control (detailing in extreme temperatures isn’t ideal for products or people), and all the equipment needed. We even have a dedicated area for paint correction and coatings if your detail service includes those extras. Having a clean, well-organized facility means your car is in good hands. We also maintain insurance and all those professional necessities – so unlike a random guy in a parking lot, we offer accountability and professionalism. Our operation is designed to deliver the pinnacle of detailing service to Oakland County clientele.
Customized Packages: We offer several detailing packages (like our Arise, Elevate, and Ascend levels) to cater to different needs. Maybe you just need an interior spruce-up because the outside is fine – we can do an interior-focused detail. Or perhaps you want the works: exterior polish, engine bay, interior shampoo, the whole nine yards (that’s our Ascend package). We can also add on specific services like pet hair removal, stain extraction, or ozone odor treatment if needed. Our team will consult with you to target whatever issues bug you most about your car. We understand each vehicle (and owner) is unique, and we approach it that way.
Convenience and Care: We try to make the detailing experience convenient. We offer appointment scheduling that works for you (and yes, we can do weekends). If you need a ride after dropping off your car, let us know – we might be able to arrange something locally. And when you pick up your car, we do a walkthrough with you to ensure everything is up to your expectations. We love seeing the smile on a customer’s face when they see their “new” car, but if there’s anything at all you notice, we’ll address it on the spot. Our goal is your complete satisfaction.
When and How Often Should You Detail?
We touched on doing it a couple times a year, but the ideal frequency depends on your usage and preferences. A general recommendation for a daily driver in Michigan would be a full detail at least once a year (to really reset everything and get protective layers refreshed). Many of our clients do it twice a year: a spring cleaning and a fall preparation. If you have kids or pets or spend a lot of time in your car, you might want interior detailing a bit more often (quarterly maybe) to keep on top of mess and odor. Exterior-wise, if the car is garaged and you keep it waxed, once or twice a year is fine. If it’s always outside, maybe quarterly waxing (which we can do in a maintenance wash service) with a full detail semi-annually.
Also consider special occasions: If you’re going on a road trip, getting married (and using the car), or just bought a used car, those are great times to get a detail. And certainly before selling a car – that’s a must if you want top dollar.

There’s nothing like the feeling of driving a thoroughly detailed car. It’s satisfying, it’s rewarding, and it protects one of your largest investments. If you haven’t treated your vehicle to a professional detail yet, give it a try – we bet you’ll be hooked on the results.

Detailing FAQ
Q: How often should I have my car detailed?
A: It really depends on your driving habits and how you maintain the car in between. As a rule of thumb, getting a full detail 1-2 times per year is common. Many customers do a spring cleanup to wash away winter salt and a fall detail to prepare for the cold season. If your car is exposed to a lot of dirt, kids, pets, or you just prefer it impeccably clean, you might opt for quarterly detailing. The interior in particular may need more frequent attention if, say, you have a dog that sheds or young children who create messes. Exterior detailing frequency can be stretched if you regularly wash the car and keep a coat of wax or sealant on it. We can also do “mini” details or maintenance washes in between major details to keep things fresh. When you consult with us, we can suggest an ideal schedule for your specific use-case. Remember, regular cleaning prevents buildup that becomes harder to tackle later, so staying on top of it will make each subsequent detail even better.
Q: How long does a full detail take?
A: Usually, for a complete inside-and-out detail, we ask for a good part of the day. Typically, you’ll drop off in the morning and pick up later in the afternoon or early evening. The exact time depends on the size and condition of your vehicle and the level of service. For example, a small coupe that is fairly clean might take 3-4 hours for an exterior and interior. A large SUV that’s muddy and full of crumbs could take 6-8 hours or more to do properly. Our top “Ascend” detailing package, which includes more intensive work like some paint correction steps, can even be an overnight affair (we might keep the car to finish the next morning to ensure everything is perfect). We don’t like to rush detailing because quality suffers – so we’ll give you an honest time estimate when you book. We can also coordinate drop-off/pick-up so it fits your schedule. But generally, allocate at least a half day for a thorough detail. We promise it’s worth the wait!
Q: What’s the difference between a car wash and a detail?
A: A car wash – whether automatic or a hand wash – is typically just an exterior cleaning (and maybe a quick vacuum inside if it’s a full-service wash). It’s basically a surface-level clean meant to knock off the loose dirt. A detail, on the other hand, is a deep cleaning and restorative process for both exterior and interior. Where a wash might miss tar spots or only spend 5 minutes on your interior, a detail tackles the tough grime, does multi-step processes (like clay barring, polishing, etc.), and addresses the fine details (cleaning wheel barrels, conditioning leather, etc.). Think of a basic wash as a quick shower, whereas a full detail is like a spa day for your car. After a detail, your car is not only clean, but it’s also protected (waxed, sealed, dressed) and rejuvenated. Both have their place – you wouldn’t detail your car every week; washing keeps it tidy in between. But only detailing will achieve that true, like-new cleanliness and gloss.
Q: Can detailing remove scratches or stains?
A: Minor ones, yes. Part of exterior detailing often involves a light polish or use of compounds that can buff out small paint swirls or scuffs. If you have slight scratches that haven’t gone through the clear coat, our detailers can usually improve or remove them. However, deeper scratches might require a more dedicated paint correction process (which we can certainly do as an add-on). We’ll let you know if any scratches on your car can be handled in the detailing stage or if they need that extra attention. As for interior stains: we have commercial-grade hot water extractors and cleaners that can remove many stains from fabric seats or carpets – coffee spills, mud, food, etc. Some very old or set-in stains (like years-old dye transfers) might not come out 100%, but almost every time we can make a dramatic improvement. We also have specialty stain removers for specific issues (ink, grease, etc.). So, while we can’t promise to erase every single flaw, a detail will eliminate most of the aesthetic imperfections or at least make them far less noticeable.
Q: Is engine bay detailing safe?
A: Yes, when done properly – and we do it properly. Modern engine compartments are fairly well sealed against water, but we still take precautions. We use a gentle degreaser and low-pressure water, mainly focusing on cleaning the surfaces (plastic covers, fluid reservoirs, etc.). We avoid directly blasting sensitive components like alternators, air intakes, or exposed electronics. We can also cover certain components if needed. After cleaning, we often apply a dressing to plastic parts under the hood to give them a nice sheen and to provide some protection. Engine bay detailing not only makes it look great (helpful if you’re selling the car or just like to show it off), but it can also help you spot any leaks or issues (since everything is clean, you’ll notice fluid leaks easier). We include engine detailing in our higher packages (Elevate and Ascend), but it can be added to any service. Rest assured, our team knows what to be careful with – we’ve detailed plenty of engine bays without incident. That said, if you prefer we not touch the engine area, we can certainly skip it at your request. It’s entirely up to your comfort level.
